I had been looking for this for a long time: the missing piece of SEO’s basic puzzle, the most important step in getting to the top of Google’s search results. I found it at last.
I have already shared a lot of SEO hacks, but they all have one problem: they take a lot of time. So you have to be 100% sure you are making SEO for the right term.
But the MOST IMPORTANT step here is SEO competitive research (the authority of the page or domain, the number of backlinks, etc.).
With a small budget, it’s almost impossible to rank #1 on Google for terms that have a lot of competition.
Michael Karp found keywords that didn’t have a lot of competition. In 9 months, he got repeated #1 rankings and 178,000 visits from search engines.
How to do a competitive study is as follows:
1. Use Google’s KeywordPlanner and KeywordTool to find good terms that people are looking for.
2. Add the MozBar and SEOquake apps to Chrome.
3. Type each of your ideas into Google.
4. If the first five hits on Google have a low page/domain authority and a low number of backlinks, you’re in the clear. This is your winning keyword, and it makes sense to focus on it.
I just put out a case study about a person who got to the #2 spot on Google for the term “Content Upgrade.” If you look at the results page through the lens of the SEO Chrome apps, you’ll see why: there isn’t much competition.
