Designing For Zero Data

If you’re designing a user interface, you’ll inevitably run into states with no data, where the user can’t do anything in the interface. It manifests itself most frequently in brand-new users. Context is provided, and onboarding is facilitated, by designing for this situation, that is, creating a system where the very first data entry is guided. It gets them over the hump of learning your product and keeps them from giving up in frustration.
